«إذا أراد أحدكم الغائط فليبدأ به قبل الصلاة»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on the prohibition of prayer while a person needs to relieve himself. Yahya transmits from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father: Abdullah ibn al-Arqam used to lead his companions in prayer. One day the prayer came and he went to relieve himself and then returned. He reported from the Prophet ﷺ that whoever wants to relieve himself should begin with that before prayer. The editor notes that Zuhayr, Ibn Uyayna, Hammad ibn Zayd, Waki' and others transmitted it through Hisham from his father from Abdullah ibn al-Arqam as Malik did, while Wuhayb, Anas ibn Iyad and Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq inserted a man between Urwa and Ibn al-Arqam. The editor prefers Malik's version because Urwa certainly heard it from Ibn al-Arqam, as in Abd al-Razzaq's Musannaf. He cites al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i, Ibn Hibban, Abu Dawud, Ahmad, al-Shafi'i and al-Bayhaqi. 1 2
