«فكان أبو بكر يصلي بصلاة رسول الله، وكان الناس يصلون بصلاة أبي بكر»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
A report that Malik transmits as a mursal from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father, in the chapter on the imam praying while seated: the Prophet ﷺ went out in his illness and found Abu Bakr standing and leading people in prayer. Abu Bakr stepped back, but the Prophet gestured that he stay as he was, and sat beside Abu Bakr. So Abu Bakr prayed following the Prophet's prayer, and the people prayed following Abu Bakr's. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said there is no disagreement on the mursal form through Malik, and that Hammad ibn Salama, Ibn Numayr and Abu Usama traced it through Hisham from his father from Aisha. The editor holds that the established form in Malik's report is the mursal one, and the connected form is transmitted by other channels. 1
