- Abd Allah ibn Dhakwan Abu al-Zinad
- Abd al-Rahman ibn Hurmuz al-A'raj
- Abu Hurayra
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on practice in congregational prayer. Yahya transmits from Malik from Abu al-Zinad from al-A'raj from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him): the Prophet ﷺ ordered whoever leads people in prayer to make it light, because among them are the weak, the sick and the old, and whoever prays alone may make it as long as he likes. The editor notes that most transmitters from Malik do not say "and the old"; Yahya and Qutayba said it. The addition "and the one in need" is known from Abu Hurayra, Abu Mas'ud and Uthman ibn Abi al-As (may God be pleased with him) (al-Tamhid). 1
