Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Safwan ibn Sulaym from Ata ibn Yasar from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, in the chapter on the ritual washing on Friday: the Prophet ﷺ said the washing on Friday is obligatory on every adult male. The editor cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i, Ibn Hibban, Ibn Khuzayma, Ahmad and al-Shafi'i, and notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's view that Muwatta transmitters did not differ on its chain, while Bakr ibn al-Sharud transmitted it from Malik by a different chain in error. Bakr had poor memory, was weak, and Ibn Ma'in called him a liar (al-Tamhid). 1
