In Sha'ban 6 AH the Prophet ﷺ marched with some seven hundred to Banu al-Mustaliq and overcame them at the water of al-Muraysi'; he married Juwayriya and a hundred households of her people were freed by her marriage's blessing.
In Sha'ban of the Hijra's sixth year the Prophet ﷺ, told that al-Harith ibn Abi Dirar of Banu al-Mustaliq was gathering Arabs to raid Medina, verified it with a scout and marched with some seven hundred fighters. The Muslims surprised them at the water of al-Muraysi' near Qudayd, routed them and took captives. Among them was Barra bint al-Harith, the chief's daughter; she contracted to free herself, the Prophet paid it and married her — Juwayriya. The Muslims freed the captives they held as 'the Messenger of God's in-laws', and a hundred households were freed. The campaign also saw the hypocrites' bid to kindle strife: an Emigrant and an Ansari quarreled at the well and each called his party; the Prophet said 'a call of Jahiliyya while I am among you? leave it, it is rotten'.

In Sha'ban of the Hijra's sixth year, intelligence reached the Prophet ﷺ that al-Harith ibn Abi Dirar, chief of Banu al-Mustaliq of Khuza'a, was gathering his people and Arab clans to raid Medina; he sent Burayda ibn al-Husayb al-Aslami to verify, and when he came back confirming, the Prophet rallied the Muslims and marched with some seven hundred fighters, many hypocrites among them. The Muslims surprised them at the water of al-Muraysi' near Qudayd; the two sides shot for an hour, then the Muslims charged as one man and routed Banu al-Mustaliq, taking their cattle, goods and captives. Among the captives was Barra bint al-Harith, the people's chief's daughter; she wrote a contract to free herself and sought the Prophet's help — he paid her contract and married her, naming her Juwayriya. Learning of the marriage, the Muslims released the captives they held, saying 'the Messenger of God's in-laws', and a hundred households of Banu al-Mustaliq were freed by her marriage's blessing — she became the most blessed of women to her people. The campaign also saw the hypocrites' bid to kindle tribal strife: an Emigrant and an Ansari quarreled at al-Muraysi' well, the Emigrant crying 'Muhajirun!' and the Ansari 'Ansar!'; the Prophet came out angered saying 'a call of Jahiliyya while I am among you? leave it, it is rotten'; Abdullah ibn Ubayy said 'when we return to Medina the mightier will drive out the humbler', and God belied and exposed him in Surat al-Munafiqun, verse 8.
