Overview
Uqba ibn Amir ibn Nabi al-Ansari al-Sulami 1. Abu Umar and others mention him and say: he witnessed the first pledge at al-Aqaba, Badr and Uhud, and "he was made known by a green band on his helmet". He witnessed the Trench and all the other battles, and he was killed as a martyr at al-Yamama 1. Abu Musa transmits from Ja'far al-Mustaghfiri that he said: he had companionship, was killed at al-Yamama, and Ibn Sa'd mentioned him in much the same terms as Abu Umar 1.
Is he Uqba ibn Amir al-Sulami?
Abu Nu'aym reports, from Uqba ibn Amir al-Sulami, that he brought his son to the Prophet when he was a boy, and said: "Teach my son the supplications with which he may pray." The Prophet said: "Say, O boy: O God, I ask You for deliverance in faith, and faith in good conduct, and a righteousness that is followed by success" 1. Ibn al-Athir joined him to Uqba ibn Amir ibn Nabi (may God be pleased with him), since he was of the Banu Salama, and made them one. Ibn Hajar said: "It is my strong opinion that he is someone else" 1.
