Summary
Malik was asked about one who calls out for the pilgrimage, from the people of Medina or others from Mecca, at the new moon of Dhu al-Hijja: how does he perform circumambulation? He said: as for the obligatory circumambulation, he delays it, which is what joins it with running between al-Safa and al-Marwa, and he circumambulates whenever he wishes, praying two rak'as each time he completes seven. The Companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ who called out for the pilgrimage from Mecca did this, delaying circumambulation and running until they returned from Mina, and Abdullah ibn Umar did it too. The editor notes that Abu Musab (1087) transmitted it from Malik. 1
