Summary
A saying of Malik: whoever eats or drinks in Ramadan forgetfully or by mistake, or was under an obligatory fast, must make up a day in its place. The editor notes that this ruling contradicts the raised hadith of Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him): if one forgets and eats or drinks, let him complete his fast, for God fed him and gave him drink (al-Bukhari 3/40 and Muslim 3/160); and refers to Fath al-Bari (4/195-197); and notes that Malik transmitted this ruling to Abu Musab (824). 1
