Summary

The first hadith in the chapter on one who ends the prayer after two rak'as by forgetfulness. Yahya transmits from Malik from Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani from Muhammad ibn Sirin from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him): the Prophet ﷺ finished two rak'as, and Dhu al-Yadayn asked whether the prayer was shortened or whether he forgot. The Prophet asked the people whether Dhu al-Yadayn spoke the truth, and they said yes. He stood and prayed two more rak'as, gave salam, then said the takbir and prostrated as he had before, or longer, then raised his head and did the same again. The editor cites al-Bukhari, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i, Ibn Hibban and al-Shafi'i, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1
