«إذا ثوب بالصلاة فلا تأتوها وأنتم تسعون، وأتوها وعليكم السكينة، فما أدركتم فصلوا وما فاتكم فأتموا»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from al-Ala' ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Ya'qub from his father, and from Ishaq ibn Abdullah, both from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him), in the chapter on the call to prayer: the Prophet ﷺ forbade worshippers to come to prayer hurrying when it is called, and ordered them to come with calm, to pray what they catch and complete what they miss, since one is in prayer as long as he is heading to it. The editor explains thuwwiba as "was called", and cites Ibn Hibban, Ahmad, al-Shafi'i and al-Bukhari in his Qira'a behind the Imam. He notes that al-Qa'nabi, Ibn Mahdi and Uthman ibn Umar transmitted it from Malik from al-Ala' from his father from Abu Hurayra without Ishaq, so Ibn Abd al-Barr's claim that there is no disagreement about it is questionable. 1 2
