Summary
A saying of Malik: the practice among us regarding goods held for trade is that when a man has paid his zakat on his money and then buys goods with it, such as cloth, slaves or the like, and sells them before a year passes from the day he paid zakat, he does not pay zakat again on that money until a year passes from the day he paid it. If he does not sell the goods for years, no zakat is due on them however long that is; when he sells them, only one zakat is due. 1
