- Muhammad ibn Uqba, client of al-Zubayr
Summary
The first report in the chapter on zakat on gold and silver. Malik transmits from Muhammad ibn Uqba, client of al-Zubayr, that he asked al-Qasim ibn Muhammad about a contract slave of his who settled with him for a large sum: is zakat due on it? Al-Qasim said: Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may God be pleased with him) did not take zakat from property until a year had passed over it, and when he gave people their stipends, he asked a man whether he had property on which zakat was due; if he said yes, he took the zakat on that property from his stipend; if he said no, he handed over his stipend and took nothing from it. 1
