Summary
Malik transmits from Hisham ibn Urwa, from his father, from Yahya ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Hatib, that slaves of Hatib stole a she-camel belonging to a man of Muzayna and slaughtered it. The matter was raised to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him), who ordered Kathir ibn al-Salt to cut off their hands. Then Umar said: I see you starving them. Then Umar said: by God, I will make you pay a fine that will be hard for you. Then he asked the Muzani: what is the price of your she-camel? The Muzani said: by God, I was refusing to sell her for four hundred dirhams. Umar said: give him eight hundred dirhams. 1
