«صلينا وراء عمر بن الخطاب الصبح فقرأ فيها بسورة يوسف وسورة الحج قراءة بطيئة»

A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources

Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Hisham ibn Urwa that his father heard Abdullah ibn Amir ibn Rabi'a say, in the chapter on recitation at dawn: "Pray behind Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) the dawn prayer, and he recited in it the surah of Yusuf and the surah of al-Hajj slowly". Urwa said to him that Umar must have stood when dawn broke. He said yes. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab, Ibn Wahb in al-Tahawi, al-Shafi'i and Yahya ibn Bukayr in al-Bayhaqi transmitted it, and that Abd al-Razzaq reported from Ma'mar from Hisham that Ibn Amir said he had only memorised the two surahs of Yusuf and al-Hajj from hearing Umar recite them so often at dawn. 1
