«فَمن قَضيْتُ لَهُ بِشَيءٍ مِن حَقِّ أخيهِ، فَلَا يَأْخُذَنَّ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
Yahya transmits from Malik, from Hisham ibn Urwa, from his father, from Zaynab bint Abi Salama (may God be pleased with her), from Umm Salama, wife of the Prophet ﷺ, that the Messenger said: I am only a human being, and you bring disputes to me. Perhaps one of you is more eloquent in his argument than another, and I judge for him according to what I hear from him. Whoever I give him something of his brother's right, let him not take it, for I am only cutting for him a piece of the Fire. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said the chain of the report has not varied from Malik, and that Ma'mar transmitted it from al-Zuhri from Urwa from Zaynab from Umm Salama in the same way. 1
