Summary
Malik transmits from Amr ibn Yahya al-Mazini, from his father, that Dahhak ibn Khalifa dug a channel from al-Arid and wanted to pass it through the land of Muhammad ibn Maslama (may God be pleased with him). Muhammad refused. Dahhak said: why do you prevent me, when it is of benefit to you, you drink from it first and last, and it does you no harm? Muhammad refused. Dahhak asked Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) about it. Umar summoned Muhammad ibn Maslama and ordered him to let it through. Muhammad said: no. Umar said: why do you prevent your brother what benefits him, when it benefits you, you water first and last, and it does not harm you? Muhammad said: no, by God. Umar said: by God, it shall pass through it, even over your belly. He ordered him to let it pass, and Dahhak did so. 1
