Summary
Yahya transmits from Malik, from Yahya ibn Said, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, that Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) used to attach the children of the Jahiliyya to whoever claimed them in Islam. Two men came, both claiming the child of one woman. Umar summoned the physiognomist, who looked at them and said: they have both shared in him. Umar struck him with his whip, then called the woman and said: tell me your story. She said: this was one of two men who came to me while I was with my family's camels; he did not leave me until he thought and I thought that I had conceived, then he turned away from me. Blood flowed on me, and then this one, meaning the other, married me, and I do not know which of them he is. The physiognomist then pronounced takbir. Umar said to the boy: choose whichever of them you wish. 1
