Summary
A saying of Malik: the settled matter among them, and what the scholars of their city had always held, is that a maternal nephew, a maternal grandfather, a paternal uncle on the mother's side, a maternal uncle, a grandmother who is the mother's mother, a full brother's daughter, a paternal aunt and a maternal aunt inherit nothing by kinship. A woman who is more distant in lineage from the deceased than those named in the Book does not inherit by kinship; women inherit only where they are named; and a woman inherits from one she has freed. He cites the verse of Surat al-Ahzab on this. 1
