Summary
A saying of Malik: the settled matter among them is that a father's inheritance from his son or daughter, if the deceased leaves a male child or son's son, is a fixed sixth. If the deceased leaves no male child or son's son, the father is paired with the other heirs of the fixed shares, and if a sixth or more remains after them, it goes to the father. A mother's inheritance from her child, if the deceased leaves a child or a son's child, or two or more brothers, is a sixth; if he leaves none of those, she gets a full third, except in two cases Malik mentioned. 1
