Summary
A saying of Malik: the settled matter among them, and what the scholars of their city had always held, is that a paternal grandfather inherits nothing at all alongside the father, and with a male child or a son's son he is assigned a fixed sixth. In other cases, unless the deceased leaves a full or paternal brother or sister, he is paired with the other heirs of fixed shares, who receive their shares; if a sixth or more remains after them, it is his; otherwise a sixth is assigned to him. 1
