Summary
A saying of Malik: a man's inheritance from his wife, if she leaves no child and no son's child, is half. If she leaves a child or a son's child, male or female, he gets a quarter, after any bequest she makes or debt. A woman's inheritance from her husband, if he leaves no child, is a quarter; if he leaves a child or a son's child, his wife gets an eighth. The verse of Surat al-Nisa' settles this. 1
