Summary
A saying of Malik: the settled matter among them is that the maternal grandmother inherits nothing alongside the mother, and is assigned a fixed sixth otherwise. The paternal grandmother inherits nothing alongside the mother or the father, and is assigned a sixth otherwise. If the two grandmothers, the paternal and the maternal, come together, with the deceased leaving neither father nor mother, then if the maternal grandmother is nearer in degree, she has the sixth to the exclusion of the paternal grandmother; if the paternal grandmother is nearer, or they are equal in degree, the sixth is shared between them in halves. 1
