«خمس صلوات في اليوم والليلة. قال: هل علي غيرهن؟ قال: لا، إلا أن تطوع»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on encouragement to pray. Yahya transmits from Malik from his paternal uncle Abu Suhayl ibn Malik from his father, that he heard Talha ibn Ubayd Allah say: a man from Najd came, with dishevelled hair and a loud voice that could be heard but not understood, until he drew near and it became clear he was asking about Islam. The Prophet said five prayers in the day and night. He asked if he had any others, and was told no, unless he chose voluntary ones. Then the Prophet ﷺ mentioned fasting Ramadan, and he asked the same, then zakat, and asked the same. The man turned away saying, "By God, I will not add to this or diminish from it". The Prophet said: he has succeeded if he is truthful. The editor cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i, Ibn Hibban, Ahmad, al-Bazzar, al-Shafi'i and al-Bayhaqi, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1 2
