Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab from Ata ibn Yazid al-Laythi from Ubayd Allah ibn Adi ibn al-Khiyar as a mursal, in the chapter on practice in the congregational prayer: while the Prophet ﷺ sat among people, a man came and whispered to him, then the Prophet spoke aloud, and it turned out the man was asking permission to kill one of the hypocrites. The Prophet asked whether he bears witness to the two testimonies. He said yes, but with no testimony. The Prophet asked whether he prays. He said yes, but with no prayer. The Prophet said: those are the ones God forbade me from. The editor notes that all Muwatta transmitters gave it as a mursal except Rawh ibn Ubada, who connected it. Ibn Jurayj agreed with Malik on the mursal form, and Abd al-Razzaq's connected report from Ma'mar is counted by Abu Hatim among Abd al-Razzaq's errors, so the mursal is correct. 1 2
