«إذا لم تستحي فافعل ما شئت»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
The first report in the chapter on placing one hand on the other in prayer. Yahya transmits from Malik from Abd al-Karim ibn Abi al-Mukhariq al-Basri, his saying: among the words of prophethood, if you are not ashamed, do what you will; placing one hand on the other in prayer, the right on the left; hastening the breaking of the fast, and delaying the pre-dawn meal. The editor says that the three items Malik transmitted from his weak teacher Abd al-Karim are well-known hadiths: the first in al-Bukhari from Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari, the second the hadith of Sahl that follows, and the third the sound hadith on hastening the fast and delaying suhur, from Ibn Abbas and others. He holds that Malik did not transmit a raised hadith from Abd al-Karim, but quoted from him what is common among the sound hadiths, so it is not a matter of transmission. 1
