Summary

A report from Malik that he was told Abdullah ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with him) shortened the prayer over a distance like that between Mecca and Ta'if, between Mecca and Usfan, and between Mecca and Jeddah. Malik says that is four postal stages, and that it is the distance at which he most likes the prayer to be shortened. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab, Suwayd and Yahya ibn Bukayr transmitted it, that al-Shafi'i, Abd al-Razzaq and Ibn Abi Shayba transmitted similar reports from Ibn Abbas, and that al-Daraqutni transmitted it raised, which is not sound raised. 1 2
