«دلوك الشمس إذا فاء الفيء، وغسق الليل اجتماع الليل وظلمته»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Chain of transmission
- Malik ibn Anas
- Dawud ibn al-Husayn
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Dawud ibn al-Husayn, who said a person told him that Abdullah ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with him) interpreted the decline of the sun as the shade turning after noon, and the darkness of night as the gathering of its darkness. The editor says the chain is weak because the teacher of Dawud ibn al-Husayn is unknown. Al-Suyuti and al-Zurqani say the informant was Ikrima, whose name Malik hid because of Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab's comments about him; even so the chain is weak for Dawud's narration from Ikrima in particular. 1 2
