Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on the middle prayer. Yahya transmits from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam from al-Qa'qa' ibn Hakim from Abu Yunus, client of Aisha: Aisha asked him to write a codex for her, and to tell her when he reached the verse of al-Baqara about guarding the prayers and the middle prayer. When he reached it she dictated the verse to him with the addition of the afternoon prayer after the middle prayer, and said she heard it from the Messenger of God ﷺ. It is an explanatory reading that makes the middle prayer the afternoon prayer in her view. The editor cites Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i, Ahmad and al-Bayhaqi, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1 2
