«ردي هذه الخميصة إلى أبي جهم، فإني نظرت إلى علمها في الصلاة فكاد يفتنني»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on looking during prayer at what distracts you. Yahya transmits from Malik from Alqama ibn Abi Alqama from his mother from Aisha: Abu Jahm ibn Hudhayfa gave the Prophet ﷺ a Syrian striped cloak with designs. He prayed in it, and when he finished he ordered it returned to Abu Jahm, because he had looked at its designs in prayer and it nearly distracted him. The editor notes that Yahya dropped "from his mother" from the chain, which no other transmitter did, and that the hadith is sound and connected from Malik through Alqama from his mother from Aisha, as Ibn Abd al-Barr said. He cites Ahmad, al-Jawhari and al-Bayhaqi. 1
