Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Dawud ibn al-Husayn from Abu Sufyan, client of Ibn Abi Ahmad, from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him), in the chapter on one who ends the prayer after two rak'as by forgetfulness: the Prophet ﷺ prayed the afternoon prayer and gave salam after two rak'as. Dhu al-Yadayn stood and asked whether the prayer was shortened or whether he forgot. The Prophet said neither had happened, and Dhu al-Yadayn said some of it had. The Prophet turned to the people and asked whether Dhu al-Yadayn spoke the truth; they said yes, and he completed what remained of the prayer and then made two prostrations after the salam while seated. The editor cites Muslim, al-Nasa'i, Ibn Khuzayma, Ahmad and al-Shafi'i, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1
