Zaynab bint Khuzayma

Zaynab bint Khuzayma al-Hilaliyya, "the Mother of the Believers, wife of the Prophet"; she was called "Mother of the Poor" for feeding them and giving them charity ¹. She was sister of Maymuna bint al-Harith by her mother ¹.

The Prophet's consummation with her came after his consummation with Hafsa bint Umar; she then stayed with him only two or three months and died ². Ibn al-Kalbi mentions she stayed with him eight months and died in Rabi' al-Akhir of year 4 AH ². Al-Waqidi mentions her age was thirty ². Umm Salama mentions in Ibn Sa'd's account that when the Prophet married her he moved her into Zaynab bint Khuzayma (may God be pleased with her)'s, Mother of the Poor's, house after she had died ².

Ibn al-Athir said Ibn Manda mentioned in her entry the hadith "the first of you to catch up with me is the longest of you in arm" — and that it was already given in Zaynab bint Jahsh's entry, to whom it fits better, since what was meant by their catching up with him was their deaths after him, and this one died in his lifetime; Ibn Hajar calls this "a strong correction" ². He mentions that the black servant-woman's story Ibn Sa'd related of "the Hilali woman who was with the Prophet" is an error — its subject is Maymuna bint al-Harith (may God be pleased with her), who was Hilali ².
