Qays ibn Asim

Qays ibn Asim (may God be pleased with him) al-Minqari al-Tamimi, a chief of Banu Tamim known for his forbearance. He embraced Islam, and in the ninth year AH the Prophet put him in charge of the alms of part of Banu Sa'd ¹.

Qays ibn Asim was among the alms collectors whom the Prophet sent to the tribes in the ninth year. He was in charge of the alms of part of Banu Sa'd, together with al-Zibriqan ibn Badr ¹.

Ibn Ishaq names him, in the delegation of Banu Tamim, as "Qays ibn Asim, brother of Banu Sa'd," and Ibn Hisham traces him to Banu Minqar ibn Ubayd ibn al-Harith ^{2 3}. He disliked Amr ibn al-Ahtam. When the people left Amr behind with their camels, Qays told the Prophet that he was a young lad among the baggage and belittled him, so the Prophet gave Amr the same as the rest. Amr satirized Qays in two verses when he heard what Qays had said ^{4 5}.

Ibn Ishaq names him among the eight men of the Tamim delegation who spoke to the Prophet about the captives of Banu al-Anbar after the expedition of Uyayna ibn Hisn. See the expedition ⁶.
