Overview

Jafna ibn Amr Muzayqiya, of the Azd. He went to Syria in the migration of the Azd and settled there with his sons, and he is the father of the kings of the Ghassanids. 1 2

The name Ghassan

The Ghassanids are named after a water in the Hijaz known as Ghassan, where they first settled before moving to Syria. 1 In the accounts of kingship in Syria, the house of Ghassan overcame the Dajaʿima over what they held, and the Romans then appointed them kings over the Arabs of Syria (see the Ghassanid kingdom). 3

On lineage

The author counts the sons of Jafna among the kings of Syria in the clans of Kahlan. 4 Elsewhere he relays the view of Sulayman al-Nadwi that the kings of the house of Ghassan were from the house of Nabit ibn Isma'il, and not from Qahtan. 5

For young visitors

Jafna settled in the lands of Syria with his sons, and his children became kings there, known as the Ghassanids.
