Life in time
Overview
Abu al-Qasim Ali ibn al-Muslima, dean of Iraq and chief of chiefs under the caliph al-Qa'im bi-Amr Allah. He was the leading administrator in Baghdad shortly before al-Basasiri entered it in 450 AH. 1
His meeting with al-Basasiri
Ibn al-Jawzi relates that the caliph asked him to mediate with Quraysh ibn Badran al-Uqayli. When al-Basasiri gained the upper hand over him, he greeted him with the words "Welcome to the grave of states and the destruction of nations", and reproached him for sparing only what would let him seize money and scatter the families. Then he put him in chains and sent him away. 1
His death
According to the same account, he was brought out of his prison on the fifteenth of Dhu al-Hijja 450 AH, paraded on a camel, then crucified at the Gate of Khurasan, and died after a day of torment. At his death he said, "Praise be to God who gave me life in happiness and caused me to die a martyr." He had remained in the vizierate for twenty-two years and some months. 2
