Overview
Abu Amr Uthman ibn Umar ibn Abi Bakr al-Kurdi al-Isnawi, known as Ibn al-Hajib. He was born at the end of 570 AH in Asna, in Upper Egypt, and his father was chamberlain to the emir Izz al-Din Musk al-Salihi. 1
He studied the readings of the Qur'an, excelled in the principles of jurisprudence and in Arabic, and gained understanding in the Maliki school. Shadharat al-Dhahab relays from al-Yafi'i that he was devoted to Shaykh Izz al-Din ibn Abd al-Salam, and that he went to prison with him when he was jailed for objecting to the sultan. 1
It relays from Ibn Khallikan that he moved to Damascus and taught at the Maliki lodge, and that people came in numbers to study with him. He died in 646 AH. 1
