Busra bint Safwan

Busra bint Safwan ibn Nawfal al-Qurashiyya al-Asadiyya, daughter of Waraqa ibn Nawfal's brother — or, it is said, daughter of Safwan ibn Umayya (may God be pleased with him) ibn Muharrith of Banu Malik ibn Kinana; Ibn al-Athir holds the first sounder. Her mother Salima bint Umayya al-Sulamiyya; she was sister of Uqba ibn Abi Mu'ayt by her mother ¹.

She was wife of al-Mughira ibn Abi al-As and bore him A'isha, whom Marwan ibn al-Hakam married and who bore him Abd al-Malik — Ibn Hajar calls this an "error", Abd al-Malik's mother being a daughter of Mu'awiya, al-Mughira's brother, as al-Zubayr ibn Bakkar said, the most knowing of his people's lineage ¹.

Al-Shafi'i said she has an early precedence and a hijra; Ibn Hibban said she was among the emigrant women; Mus'ab said she was among the women who pledged ².

She related from the Prophet; from her relate Marwan ibn al-Hakam, Urwa ibn al-Zubayr, Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, Umm Kulthum bint Uqba (may God be pleased with her) and Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman ¹. Ishaq recorded in his Musnad from Amr ibn Shu'ayb: I was with Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab who said "Busra bint Safwan (may God be pleased with her) is one of my maternal aunts" — then mentioned the hadith on touching the private part ².

Ibn al-Kalbi mentions she was a hairdresser who tended the women of Mecca ².
