Summary

Son of Umm Ayman, the Prophet's nurse, and brother of Usama ibn Zayd by his mother; an Abyssinian-Qurashi Companion who stood firm with the Prophet when the people scattered in the narrows of Hunayn, fighting before him until martyred 1.

His gallantry and martyrdom

When Hawazin's ambush struck and the people fell back at the battle's start, Ayman ibn Ubayd (may God be pleased with him) was among the few who held firm around the Prophet, gathering round him at his mount, and kept defending with his sword until he fell a martyr in the valley of Hunayn 1.

Ibn Ishaq names him at the head of that day's martyrs of Banu Hashim and their allies 2.
