Summary
A Qurayshi Companion, a notable of Banu Makhzum; brother of Umm Salama the Mother of the Believers, and son of the Prophet's paternal aunt Atika bint Abd al-Muttalib. He long opposed the call in Mecca, then became Muslim in the conquest year at Niq al-Uqab, and was martyred by an arrow in the siege of al-Ta'if 1.
His conversion and martyrdom
Abdullah ibn Abi Umayya (may God be pleased with him) went out with Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith (may God be pleased with him) on the road of the conquest of Mecca seeking Islam; they met the Prophet at Niq al-Uqab, Umm Salama interceded for them, and the Prophet accepted them and they became Muslim 2. He witnessed the conquest of Mecca and Hunayn, then marched in the siege of al-Ta'if where an arrow shot from the fortress struck him and he was martyred 3.
