Summary
Malik transmits from Hisham ibn Urwa, from his father, who said: I asked Aisha, Mother of the Believers, while I was young: have you seen God's words: al-Safa and al-Marwa are among the rites of God; whoever makes the pilgrimage to the House or the lesser pilgrimage, there is no sin on him for going around them; so is there anything on a man who does not go around them? Aisha said: no. If it were as you say, it would be: there is no sin on him for not going around them. That verse was sent down about the Ansar, who used to enter ihram for Manat, which was at Qudayd; they were reluctant to circumambulate between al-Safa and al-Marwa; when Islam came they asked the Messenger of God ﷺ about it, and God sent down the verse. The editor notes that Abu Musab (1316) and Suwayd (545) transmitted it from Malik. 1
