Summary
Malik transmits from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Ata ibn Yasar, from a man of Banu Asad, that he and his household settled at Baqi al-Gharqad; his household asked him to ask the Prophet ﷺ for something to eat. He found a man asking the Prophet, and the Prophet said: I do not have anything to give you. The man turned away angrily, saying: by my life, you give to whom you wish. The Prophet said: he is angry with me because I have nothing to give him; whoever among you asks while he has an ounce or its equivalent has asked importunately. The Asadi said: I said to myself, our milch camel is better than an ounce. Malik explains that an ounce is forty dirhams. He returned without asking, and then barley and raisins came to the Prophet, and he shared them out until God made them sufficient. 1
