Summary

Malik transmits from Yahya ibn Said, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim, that Aslam, client of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him), told him that he visited Abdallah ibn Ayyash al-Makhzumi and found nabidh with him on the road to Mecca. Aslam said: this drink is loved by Umar ibn al-Khattab. Abdallah carried a large cup to Umar; he drank from it and said: this is a good drink. Then Umar called him and asked: are you the one who says that Mecca is better than Medina? He said: it is the sanctuary of God and His protection, and His House is there. Umar said: I will not say anything about the House of God or its sanctuary, and went away. 1
