Summary
Malik said: the practice among us regarding a conditionally freed slave who wounds, and then his master dies with no property other than him: a third of him is freed, then the blood-money of the wound is divided into thirds: a third of the blood-money falls on the freed third, and two-thirds fall on the two-thirds in the hands of the heirs. If they wish, they hand over their share of him to the owner of the wound; if they wish, they give him two-thirds of the blood-money and keep their share of the slave, because a slave's offence was not a debt on his master. 1
