Summary
Malik transmits from Abdallah ibn Yazid, a client of al-Aswad ibn Sufyan, from Abu Salama ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf (may God be pleased with him), from Fatima bint Qays, that Abu Amr ibn Hafs divorced her irrevocably while he was away in Syria. He sent her agent to her with barley; she was displeased, and he said: by God, you have no claim on us for anything. She went to the Messenger and told him, and he said she has no maintenance claim on him, and told her to observe the waiting period in the house of Umm Sharik (may God be pleased with her). Then he said: that is a woman whom my companions visit; observe your waiting period at the house of Abdullah ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind, and you may take off your clothes there. When her waiting period ended she told him that Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan and Abu Jahm had proposed to her. He said Abu Jahm does not put his staff down from his shoulder, and Muawiya is a poor man with no property; marry Usama ibn Zayd (may God be pleased with him). She disliked this, then he said: marry Usama ibn Zayd. She married him, God brought good in it, and she was content with it. 1
