Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab from Uthman ibn Ishaq ibn Kharsha from Qabisa ibn Dhu'ayb: a grandmother came to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may God be pleased with him) asking for her inheritance. Abu Bakr told her: you have nothing in God's book, and I know of nothing for you in the Sunna of the Messenger of God ﷺ; go back until I ask the people. He asked the people, and al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba said: I was present when the Messenger of God gave her a sixth. Abu Bakr asked whether anyone was with him, and Muhammad ibn Maslama (may God be pleased with him) al-Ansari stood and said the same as al-Mughira, and Abu Bakr carried it out for her. Then the other grandmother came to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him), who said: you have nothing in God's book, and I will not add anything to the shares, but it is that sixth; if you two share it, it is between you, and whichever of you is alone with it has it. The editor notes that al-Tirmidhi and others authenticated the report, but Qabisa's transmission from Abu Bakr is broken, as al-Mizzi stated. 1
