Summary
A report that Yahya transmits from Malik from Yahya ibn Sa'id, that Mu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan wrote to Zayd ibn Thabit (may God be pleased with him) asking about the grandfather. Zayd wrote back: you wrote asking me about the grandfather, and God knows best. This is a matter on which only the commanders, meaning the caliphs, judged, and I attended the two caliphs before you, who gave him half with one brother and a third with two. If the brothers increased, they did not reduce his third. 1
