Summary

The first hadith in the chapter on the permission to face the qibla for urine or excrement. Yahya transmits from Malik from Yahya ibn Sa'id from Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Habban from his paternal uncle Wasi' ibn Habban from Abdullah ibn Umar: he used to say that people say when you sit to relieve yourself, do not face the qibla or Jerusalem; he climbed onto the roof of one of their houses and saw the Prophet ﷺ on two bricks, facing Jerusalem for his need. Ibn Umar then said to Wasi', "Perhaps you are one of those who pray on their haunches". Wasi' said, "I do not know, by God". Malik says it means the one who prostrates without raising himself off the ground, prostrating while stuck to the earth. The editor cites al-Bukhari, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i, al-Shafi'i in his Musnad and Risala, al-Tahawi and al-Bayhaqi, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1 2
