Summary

The first hadith in the chapter on sitting in prayer. Yahya transmits from Malik from Muslim ibn Abi Maryam from Ali ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Mu'awi: Abdullah ibn Umar saw him playing with pebbles in prayer and rebuked him after he finished, telling him to do as the Prophet ﷺ did. He described for him that when the Prophet sat in prayer he placed his right palm on his right thigh, closed all his fingers and pointed with the index finger, and placed his left palm on his left thigh. The editor cites Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i, Ibn Hibban, Ahmad and al-Shafi'i from Malik's transmitters, and from Ibn Uyayna through Muslim ibn Abi Maryam in al-Humaydi, Ahmad, Muslim and al-Nasa'i. He refers to al-Tamhid. 1
