Summary

The first hadith in the chapter on the general rules of times. Yahya transmits from Malik from Nafi' from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Prophet ﷺ compared someone who misses the afternoon prayer to one whose family and property have been struck by a disaster that he must avenge. The editor explains the word "watr" as an offence whose vengeance is sought, so the owner faces both the grief of the disaster and the grief of seeking vengeance. He cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1
