Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Nafi', in the chapter on the fear prayer: when Abdullah ibn Umar was asked about the fear prayer, he described it: the imam goes forward with a group and prays one rak'a with them, while another group stands between him and the enemy and has not prayed. When those with him finish one rak'a, they move back to the place of those who have not prayed, and do not give salam. The others come forward and pray with him one rak'a, then the imam leaves having prayed two rak'as, and each group stands and prays one rak'a for itself. If the fear is more intense, they pray standing or mounted, facing the qibla or not facing it. Malik says Nafi' said: I do not think Abdullah ibn Umar related it to me except from the Prophet ﷺ. The editor cites al-Bukhari, Abd al-Razzaq, al-Shafi'i, Ibn Khuzayma, al-Tahawi, al-Bayhaqi and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan, and notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's view that Malik transmitted it with doubt about its raising, while many others from Nafi' did not doubt its raising, including Ibn Abi Dhi'b, Musa ibn Uqba and Ayyub ibn Musa, as did Zuhri from Salim from Ibn Umar (al-Tamhid). 1 2
