Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on the fear prayer; the editor notes that the heading "Book of the Fear Prayer" in the printed edition has no basis in the manuscripts or commentaries. Yahya transmits from Malik from Yazid ibn Ruman from Salih ibn Khawwat, from someone who prayed with the Prophet ﷺ the fear prayer on the day of Dhat al-Riqa: one group lined up with him and another group faced the enemy. He prayed one rak'a with those with him, then stood still, and they completed for themselves and went out, lining up facing the enemy. The other group came, and he prayed with them the rak'a that remained of his prayer, then stayed seated, and they completed for themselves, and then he gave them the salam. The editor cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i, al-Shafi'i, al-Tabari, al-Tahawi, al-Daraqutni and al-Bayhaqi from Malik's transmitters, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1 2
